GET BACK TO WHAT YOU  LOVE!

 - GROUPS are limited to a max of four people.

- We'll have a total of 10 one hour meetings online that I lead.

- Open to people of any age who love the music of the 60s and 70s, with newer examples added.

- The successful member will have some experience on the guitar (beginners can schedule one-on-one lessons until they're ready for a group) and be open to sharing their musical strengths with others in the group. For example maybe you're good at rhythm but week on improvising. Learn from each other!

Your Instructor -
Bob Schleeter

This picture was taken I when left my classroom teaching jobs in 2017 and gave an epic farewell concert.

In my three decades of classroom music teaching I saw that students often learned as much from one another as they did from me.

My background includes graduating from BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC  and playing hundreds of gigs in the Midwest, San Diego, SF Bay Area, Boston, and New Orleans.  I'm also a 2018 inductee into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

A few recordings are linked below:

Jerry Cortez

Undoubtedly my most famous guitar student, Jerry was in my Jazz Improvisation class at the College of Marin in 2002, several years before he joined TOWER OF POWER, still his main gig.

Jerry is a great guy and great musician - then and now! He joined the class to expand his jazz horizons and was hugely supportive. I'm still playing the Guild Emporer I bought from him almost 20 years ago.

Caroline Sky

Caroline was my student for four years, plus a summer music session before she entered high school at age 13. She blew us away from the beginning! I took all my college age coaches and created a band featuring her, eventually recording an  original song of hers.

Here's a blurb from her website: Caroline has studied songwriting at New York University's summer music program, and has received songwriting mentorship from greats such as Bob Weir (Grateful Dead) and Bonnie Hayes (Bonnie Raitt, Berklee College of Music).

Most publicly known for her appearance as a contestant on Season 12 of NBC's top-rated music reality show, The Voice, Caroline received chair turns from both Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. She competed as a member of Team Gwen, and was later "stolen" back by Blake Shelton.

Fred Woodward

Fred was my guitar student in Iowa City around 1980. I lost touch with him when I left but happened to run into him in Boston many years later. He caught me up on his career, which included national and international tours with Sam & Dave, The Drifters and the Marveletts

Myles and Lars Ulrich

I was nervous as I auditioned Myles (in 2914) for placement in the high school music program I l led when I saw his dad watching from the doorway. When the audition was over he came in and we played together. Lars can drive!

Two years later I was lucky enough to work also with Myles' brother Layne. Both brothers were great  students and are currently New York based musicians. Lars turned out to be exuberant, gracious, and generous, allowing me to record a track at his band Metallica's studio, nicknamed HQ. For my retirement concert he sent me a beautiful video, linked below.

Natascha and Bob Weir

This photo was taken back stage at TRI. Me, Ray Manzerak (The Doors), and the Weirs. I taught Monet Weir for three years and had her sister Chloe in a summer program.

Bobby was very intent on sharing his experiences (at least somne of them!) with my high school students, coming in to do a presentation on stage sound and another on his former roommate, Neal Cassidy. I was thrilled to work with him to present a series of five songwriting round ables. And he came and played in my retirement concert!!

Alum Highlight Reel

I had an extraordinary teaching job for 27 years in San Rafael, CA. This is a highlight reel of some of those students made in 2017. They have all continued to grow and shine.

The singer pictured here, Lara Johnston, sent me a video audition  in 2004 of her singing a Christmas carol with her dad's band, The Doobie Brothers. Lara has a dynamic career based in Los Angeles. In 2017 she took a break from her gig with Don Henley to sing at my retirement party.
